"Elephant"
"Elephant", the election symbol of BSP
……There is an inherent great meaning in the election symbol of BSP. The "Elephant". This election symbol of BSP represents the large and giant population of the “Bahujan Samaj" like the elephant. And the "Blue Flag" of the party represents the soothing blue sky. It shows that then sky does not discriminate anybody on the basis on caste, creed, rich, and poor and treat people with full equality. It also signifies peace and tranquility, which is certainly not available to mankind on this earth planet. That's why theBSP wants to create an atmosphere of justice and peace here and now on this earth, like the sky. The BSP thereby means that it wants to see a just, humanistic and equality-based social and economic order, which would serve the interest of all the sections of the Society. Considering all these, the BSP had chosen“Elephant" as its election symbol and "Blue" color as its flag.

Six SP MLAs defect to BSP to 'serve people'
The five SP MLAs who have defected to the ruling BSP are Sarvesh SIngh MLA from Sagr constituency in Azamgarh, Sultan Beg MLA from Kawar constituency in Bareilly, Ashok Kumar Singh Chandel from Hamirpur, Sandeep Agarwal from Moradabad, Sundar Lal Lodhi from Hadha constituency in Unnao and Suraj Singh Shakya from Kanshiram Nagar.
The move is being seen as BSP reply to SP. While MLAs are defecting after being denied ticket by their parties for the assembly elections due next year in April-May, by engineering defections, the political parties are trying to give impression that the poll mood is in their favour.
Significantly, three BSP MLAs and several other leaders have defected to SP since May this year. Those who have joined SP include BSP MLA from Mallawa in Hardoi, Satish Verma, BSP MLA from Masauli in Barabanki district, Farid Mefhooz Kidwai and BSP MLA from Jalalpur, Ambedkarnagar, Sher Bahadur Singh.
All the turncoats enjoyed their term as MLA for four-and-a-half years and now after being denied election tickets, they all suddenly realised that their parent party is 'suffocating'. They all said that they have defected to 'serve the people'.

‘We did in four years what others couldn’t in 40’.
Chief minister Mayawati launched several schemes for the masses, especially for dalits, backwards, religious minorities as well as poor among the upper caste. Under the leadership of chief minister Mayawati, the era of turmoil in the state politics came to an end.
The mafias are on the run and there is no collection of goonda tax from the traders.
Four years is all it took for the BSP government to do what previous governments failed to achieve in 40 years of their rule. It has shown that the law is equal for every one and influential lawbreakers were also put behind bars. Even the MPs and MLAs of the BSP who indulged in criminal activities were brought to justice by the chief minister.
Vision and strategy
Riding on the development plank and social engineering formula, BSP now plans to return to power. Chief minister, Mayawati has told party workers to inform the people about various development schemes. The measures taken by the party for the welfare of the common man would be the main agenda for the party in 2012 elections.
The BSP government is working on three basic issues- bijli, paani and sadak to seek the support of the people.
Early selection of the candidates
BSP is the only political party that that has finalised the tickets of the MLAs after delimitation of the constituencies. The majority of the candidates are already campaigning in their constituencies while rival political parties are yet to finalise their candidates. The BSP has already announced that it would contest on all the 403 assembly seats on its own strength.
Infrastructure sector
The state government has launched Yamuna expressway to connect NOIDA with Agra and Ganga expressway to connect NOIDA with Ballia.
Energy
The chief minister has already announced that by 2014, people in the state would get 24 hours power supply. The state government has planned to generate 30,000 megawatt power after setting up dozens of new thermal power plants. The capacities of the old power plants are being increased.
The state government has already fulfilled its promise of 14 hours power supply in the rural areas.
Public Works Department
Within four years, the state government has laid 50,000km roads in the state. Cement concrete road were constructed in 5,480 gram sabhas. The state government spent Rs 3,569 crore over the construction of the roads in the villages. The existing roads were repaired.
Industrial development
The state government gave 100% concession in stamp duties over the small scale units coming up in Purvanchal and Bundelkhand region. In other areas, relaxation on stamp duty was 50%. The online application facility has been provided to the entrepreneurs who are planning to set up small, medium and big industrial units.
Special facilities were given to the entrepreneurs under UP special economic region (amendment) policy 2007.
Social Welfare schemes
All facilities under the Dr Ambedkar gram sabha development scheme have been provided in 5,598 gram sabhas. Community centers have come up constructed in a large number of villages. The state government also launched Mahamaya Sarvajan Awas Yojana to provide housing to those below the poverty line.
The common people insurance scheme has also been quiet a hit.
Other schemes that have been much lauded by people include CM Mahamaya Garib Arthik Mamad Yojana, Savitri Bai Phule Balika Shiksha Mamad Yojana, Mahamaya Garib Balika Ashirvad Yojana, Manyavar Kanshiram Shahari Garib Awas Yojana, Sarvajan Hitay Garib Awas (slum areas) Malikana Haq Yojana, Mahamaya Sarvajan Awas Yojana, Kanshiram Dalit Basti Samgra Vikas Yojana and UP Janhit Guarantee Act, 2011.
Janhit Guarantee Act is a unique scheme in which the common people would get services within a fixed time period. Around 13 services associated with various departments including including revenue, urban development, health, food and civil supplies have been marked by the state government.
Law and order has been a major area of focus for the state government. The improvement of the police system was a major challenge, as the state government got no economic assistance from the central government.
The state government had earmarked Rs 7,440 crore budget for the police department. Special development projects have been launched in the naxal infested Sonebhadra, Chandauli and Mirzapur districts. The state government has created 2,4 lakh new posts in the police department in 2008. For fair and transparent recruitment, the state government constituted police recruitment board.
